Good Morning Church Family!
I love that old song that Doug shared yesterday. I never knew there was a second verse to that song! I would encourage you to continue reading the morning devotionals as we journey together in pondering and chewing out what God is speaking to us from Sunday's sermons.
Romans 8:15 says:
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba,[a] Father.”
Pastor Mona shared a few characteristics of someone who suffers with this bondage of rejection which is the opposite of adoption.
To summarize, they:
1. have a performance mindset
2. have a scarcity mindset (survival)
3. struggle with unconditional love
4. have a victim mindset
5. focus on covering up (insecurity)
6. look out for themselves.
I don't know about you, but God has been setting me free of some of these over the years, but if we can be truly honest and ask the Holy Spirt to reveal our hearts, many of us still struggle with some of these.
Understanding our adoption and all that it entails helps us understand our identity and walk not only in victory, but in greater grace towards others.
It enables us to receive and give love God's way.
Rejection will cause us to receive and give love in dysfunctional ways, ways that are very often destructive in the long term.
1 Corinthians 2:12
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
The World deals through rejection, it is the spirit of this world. But that is not what we have received as children of God. Oh that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God!
My encouragement for you this week is to seek God, ask Him to expose the toxic mindsets and ask Him to reveal His truth about your adoption in Him. Understanding His truth and his love sets us free.
Love you guys!
