Giving way

Good morning church family!! So glad to be back on this journey of doing devos and rehashing the themes and revelations that God has been giving us with Sunday sermons!

I don’t know about you guys but lately it has happened on more than one occasion where I have found myself at a four way stop having a Canadian stand off.

for those who don’t know what a Canadian stand off is, it’s a stand off to see who will win at being most accommodating or polite.

so here I am at a four way stop, and tow or three vehicles have all arrived at exactly the same time. Everyone is doing that thing where they wave their hand at someone to signal to them to go first. No one is moving!

At one point someone has to move! 🚗 someone usually agrees eventually. It’s almost a kindness competition.

the word submission often has a bad rap, but in a sense at the four way stop, we were all wanting to yield to someone else passing first.

submission is yielding or giving way to someone else’s leadership.

1 Peter 2:9
but you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you might declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

The apostle Peter begins this section of this letter reminding people who they are . He afterwards begins talking about submission in every avenue of life. Much of it parallels the book of Colossians and Ephesians.

Because we are accepted and can find our worth and security and significance in Christ, we can submit to one another, knowing that ultimately God is in control of all things.

When we feel insecure, it then often becomes difficult to submit ourselves. We want to protect ourselves all the while our self protection causes harm to our relationships.

As we make the conscious choice by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, to yield and give way to one another, let Him also examine the motives of the heart.

Opportunities to walk in submission, may also be opportunities for healing if you also give way to the Holy Spirit.

May God bless your day abundantly!

Thanks Erica for this great visual!!

My fight to often hold onto things that I should not be always do get exposed!! Sometimes submission is difficult because of my flesh but as I'm learning (more quickly) to yield to God's voice and trust Him. And upon that great surrender I do not struggle...alone!! I pray God keeps exposing my selfishness to love like him❤️
